... remember to check the following before taking your caravan on the road:
• Condition of the tyres and their pressure • Is the load correctly distributed and firmly secured – check the caravan nose weight • The TV antenna is in the travelling position • Gas cylinders are fastened and turned off • Doors, hatches, windows and fridge door are closed correctly • Are the lights/indicators undamaged and in working order? Also ensure 12N/12S electrical cable won't pull or drag as the car turns • Corner steadies are fully raised, chocks have been removed • Is the coupling head (use the jockey wheel to raise the car/caravan coupling an inch) and breakaway cable securely fastened? • Check the coupling height is correct, the caravan should be level with the towing vehicle • The hand brake is released • Stow the jockey wheel • Check your towing mirrors • Test your brakes when you pull off |
